(Comunicato stampa) - We get the question all the time, Why dont you guys make titanium springs for your Swinger coil shocks?
Axe us the question, homies, and well tell yous no lies. The answer is simple: for each of the shock lengths we manufacture, we have six different weights of spring. Those little titanium buggers, though a bit lighter than a steel coil, are more than ten times as expensive, so its not a very cost effective thing to do. The way we figure it, its just better to do away with coils all together and develop the industrys first downhill air shock.
Bow down to the Manitou Evolver.
Since its Interbike introduction, theres been a lot of talk about the Evolver. Talk leading to questions, questions leading to confusion. To clear things up, the following is the straight line on the Evolver:
This BOOM-stick of a shock is a massive, 3 stroke, 6-way adjustable wonder. Internally, it utilizes a barrage of super-secret technologies including SPV damping and a whole lot of other stuff that we cant really talk about yet. The brainchild of our own suspension wunderkind, Jose Gonzalez, the Evolver saves more than 400g off of a comparably sized Swinger 6-way coil shock.
While Manitou currently has rideable prototypes, the Evolver isnt quite ready for public consumption. After refining the design with the help of Intense throughout the 2004 race season, were looking at an intro date deep into the 2004 calendar year. As such, we have not worked out pricing, but expect it to reflect that this shock is the new high-end in downhill and freeride suspension. It certainly has us excited.
