Red Bull Vozi bre - The Real Knight Riders
Belgrade, Serbia - 15/16 September 2006

The ancient Kalemegdan fortress on the outskirts of Serbian capital Belgrade will host the first international mountain bike slopestyle contest in this part of the World. Chosen bike knights will put on yet another battle at this historic venue.

The History
The name Kalemegdan comes from Arab, meaning a "fortress amidst battlefields". This time the fortress itself will become the battlefield (not like it has not happened before in the past few millennia).

The good thing is there are no cannons, swords or obscure medieval weapons involved this time. The knights involved will be dressed in armour and wearing helmets yet their bikes shall be their weapons of choice.

The Idea
The inaugural 2005 Red Bull Vozi bre event was a time trial, downhill style race and some of the riders were having way too much fun in their runs, driving the crowd crazy with their stunts. The fortress with its architecture -- the towers, the walls, the various levels -- is great for racing, but perfect for freestyle, or freeride if that is what you want to call it.

So the decision was made: the 2006 Red Bull vozi bre will be a slopestyle event! A blend of urban, dirt and big mountain moves. Riders pushing themselves to take points for difficulty, execution, creativity, style, variation...

The Competition
An international field of a maximum of 25 riders will be invited to prove their riding skills. The list is prepared by Tarek Rasouli & rasoulution and will include the biggest European freeride names. Tarek’s rasoulution crew is event’s consulting partner and the course is designed by the team from Mellowpark, Berlin. It will start from a tower and include a dirt jump section, a selection of drops and a street section.

Friday 15th is practice day and Saturday 16th the competition day with top 8 riders from a two-run qualification round entering the late afternoon knight-style tournament. For this occasion the elimination format was chosen -- riders dueling to convince the jury (not the king’s beautiful daughter, sorry…) who of the two deserves to advance into the next round. Final (1-2) and consolation final (3-4) duels will be performed in two runs.

The prize money split among top 8 riders will be 8500 euro with the winner taking 4000.

Vozi bre?
And what does it mean? It is just a very Serbian way of saying “Yo, go ride“, or in this Canadian influenced freeride world: “Go ride, eh“.
