Red Bull District Ride September 23rd/24th 2005

The World is waiting for the best 27 Urban Freeriders to invade the city of Nuremberg and throw it down on an insane urban freeride course, with tricks and stunts that you’ve never seen before. Riders are coming from around the globe, with a total of 10 different nations participating in the biggest city mountain bike event ever.
Despite two cancellations due to injury, the field of riders has once again been filled to capacity. Checkout the start list of World Champions and World Cup winners:

Nathan Rennie (AUS) Trond Hansen (NOR)
Darren Berrecloth (CAN) Niels Windfeldt (NOR)
Wade Simmons (CAN) Greg Minnaar (RSA)
Thomas Vanderham (CAN) Sam Zbinden (SUI)
Geoff Gulevich (CAN) Grant Fielder (UK)
Gareth Dyer (CAN) Chris Smith (UK)
Michal Marosi (Czech Republic) Gee Atherton (UK)
Cedric Gracia (F) Kyle Strait (USA)
Julien Meunier (F) Paul Basagoitia (USA)
Titou Picard (F) Cameron McCaul (USA)
Timo Pritzel (GER) Kyle Ebbett (USA)
Guido Tschugg (GER) Aaron Chase (USA)
Carlo Dieckmann (GER) Dave Smutok (USA)
Joscha Forstreuther (GER)

Did you spot your favourite rider?

It’s gonna be a tough competition, and there’s no safe bet as to who’ll be on the podium. After winning the Ride to the Lake event in Meersburg (GER) last year, plus the Red Bull Rampage in Utah (USA), Kyle Strait is one of the guys to watch. There’s also Paul Basagoitia who just won the Crankworx Slopestyle contest in Whistler (CAN) for the second year straight. Will Greg “Big Air” Minnaar (World Cup Downhill Champion 2005) take on the course with more style & tricks than the rest? Or will Timo Pritzel flip higher than everyone and take the big win in his home country? Can Darren Berrecloth 360 the roadgap of the castle wall and win another global event? Will anyone dare take the big wall drop? Who will win the “Sick O Award” this year?

Six judges will watch out for tricks like flips, 360’s, tailwhips and other combos that will blow everyone away. However, it’s not only tricks that determine who is the best rider. Obstacle choice, style and execution will all be key judging criteria to determine who wins the Red Bull District Ride 2005.

After the first qualifying run on Friday night, the top 5 urban riders will have the chance to get real techy in the Street District and ride for the “Sick O Award”. Each rider will have 90 seconds to impress the judges, who ultimately decide which rider gets the special Oakley award. Straight after the finals on Saturday night, everyone will be ready to celebrate with the winners at the Red Bull Party, down at the Indaba Lounge & Club.

Red Bull District Ride will be covered exclusively online by Freecaster, the source for freesports and music beyond TV. Checkout the Red Bull District Ride trailer for a taste of what’s to come…
