welcome here,

twenty-five km out of Milan you can find many beautiful and also dramatic trails and scenary as the Adda River (flat but very very long) or the Lago di Lecco hills (hundreds km of single trails with the Alps in the eyes)....

welcome,
You can find hundreds km of trails in the area located between Lecco and Como. It' about 40/50 km from milan, and it's called Triangolo Lariano.
You can reach Como by train.
If you need help you have only to ask !!!

Hi hemi,
also from Bollate (10km north) to Como about 50-60km) you can ride off-road, at the beginning on a flat track (Parco Groane), and after about 10km it become more funny and technincal (Parco del Lura and Parco Pineta).
Also in Brianza (Monza land) there are some good spot.

regards, Pregno

Hi hemi427,
never ask to bikers if it has a sense to buy a bike!!!
it is allways the case to have a bike under your bottom, also for riding in a "flat and industrialized" zone!
anyway don't worry: we'r not "flat and idustrialized lovers" so, also here close to Milan, there are many different locations for riding!
I think that during this year U will have many different occasions to use your riding experience and get home with a very different opinion of Italy!
where do you come from?
stay tuned on this part of the forum and you will find many opportunities to use your new bike!
welcome in Italy
Labby

HI Hemi, if you take a look at north , you can see mountains that aren't so far from, and between a lot of hills, where you can found a numbers of paths, if you like MTB. I think these are the first days here... Outside the city, it's better indeed. You've only to leave the roads and keep paths.

I think that the only thing worse than your country are the MTB's prices...

hi hemi,
milano is not so flat as you think. if you contact batacchio or porfi (he also repairs and sells bikes) they can confirm you that parco lambro or monte stella are locations with jumps and single track. monte stella is not a mountain, it is less than a hill, but as parco lambro is fully populated specially by night by a lot of biker.

if you want something strong there is san genesio (30min of train from milano to lecco, cernusco lombardone or merate station) with strong climb and FR descent (the "classic" 1-3-2 trail)

see you

@ Hemi, Milan is sadly flat and industrialized, the only real issue is that you need a car to have descent mtb activity ... I guess you did take it for granted. Should you live in Milan you need at least 30 / 45 minutes by car to find an aggressive XC or DH like kind of track. There are some parks also in the surrounding areas but to tell the truth they are not very exciting (well, it depends on where you come from ) . Unless you have a car, my suggestion would be to find and know some mtbers who live close to your accomodation and to keep in contact with them to ask them to pick you up when they ride. In addition some basic italian ( or bergamasco dialect as well ) knowledge would help as well. The second reccomendation would be to keep in contact with the italian dealer of Ellsworth bikes (who speaks a fluent english) : you may ask him to have a test ride with one of his dreambike and join him during a sunday (Pro-M is the name of the shop and you may find in the web all the info), so to have an idea on what you may ride here in north of Italy.
Moreover , in case you like nightrides, almost every wednsday Labby and his friend go nightriding from 21 until 00, in sites that are 40 minutes far from Milan north area: back at bed at fuc.ing 2 am. This is for sure something you would enjoy.
As my friend Labby said, you only need to read the Lombardia section of this forum and , I would add, ask a friend to translate it for you !!
If I were you , as a mtb enthusiast, I wouldn't have any any doubt about buying a great bike and, in case, to sell it before your departure. I could not resist a whole year without my babies !! If the price is ok, in this forum there is a very effective on line "mercatino" (market)
Ciao

Ciao a tutti

I got very happy to see the kindness of you italian bikers to foreign bikers and could not avoid to drop a note.

I'm also a foreign MTB enthusiast living in Italy for the next few months.
I've come from Brazil and could not spend so much time "without my baby" as well, so I brought my darling with me in a very well packed box.

I'm living in Lodi, 30' from Milan by train.
So far I have met some very nice guys at the local bike shop (Dilie' Cicli) and been able to enjoy a few very good rides at San Colombano, which is the only place close to Lodi area with up and down hill single tracks.

Apparently my stay here will be in the worst part of the year to MTB (until end February), and my only complaint is that it seems that the season is off and no body here is going to the mountains anymore... as I do not have a car, it is difficult for me to reach the mountains and get to know these sweet single track rides you are talking about in this forum.

So my message here is to kindly ask any of you some tips and maybe some invitations for riding somewhere different.... Also if you can give me directions of places I can reach by train and enjoy some MTB, it will be very much appreciated.

I have always wanted to know the areas close to Como, Lecco, Garda.... and ride with the mountains in the background.....
So, if any of you are going to these places and can tell me what to do to get there, or maybe give me a ride (we can split the gas and tolls of course) I will be very glad to join.

Anyway, many thanks for all the italian simpaty shown here.

And if any of you eventually go to Brazil, please let me know and we can organize a plenty of sweet rides there. Brazil is a great place for MTB and cycling!!!

Ci vediamo dopo.
Ciao,
Thiago
