OUTDOOR COMP:
Saturday's qualifying was tough do because of a strong head wind. The jumps were very large and the wind was making it tough to gain speed. Some nice runs were thrown in and 16 people qualified.

For the finals on Sunday the winds had changed direction completely. The jumps were much faster and now speed was easy to get. In the beginning of practice everyone was over clearing jumps because the wind was in such favor of the direction of the jumps. The jumps were all on a long downhill slope and the average jump was about 20 feet. But the first and last jumps were a bit bigger.

Most of the first runs of the finals were pretty mellow except Andrea Lacondequy and I both had our dope runs right off the bat. Andrea's was a flip, 360, span can, tuck no hander, 270, and a massive tailwhip on the last jump. My run was flip 1 footed X, Super Seater, no foot can, 360, Superman on the hip, wheel barrel flip.

Make a note in your record books and put Greg Watts at the top. His final run is the one to be remembered. After speed jumping the first and pinning around the berm, everyone was expecting one of his patented flip barspins. But Greg came off the lip with a pop like no other. Over rotating his flip everyone cringed and went into the loudest crowd roar you've ever heard. The first ever double backflip landed on an mountain bike! He even kept going through the jumps afterward, but then was so ecstatic he bailed off his bike a couple of down and ran back to the top where he was dog piled by everyone. I will never forget it. It was his first attempt, and it was dialed.

Here are the close, but no cigar awards:
Cam Zink--Super Seater Indian Air flip.
Paul Basagoitia--720 and flipwhip.
Ben Boyko--3; whipping the first set which was the biggest.

McCaul was one of the last runs to come down and it was for the win: Flip, Indian Air, tailwhip, 360, Super Seater on the hip, corkflip.
